Purchasing live coral online can be a convenient way to add new specimens to your reef tank. However, it is important to make sure that you are purchasing from a reputable source and that the coral is shipped safely and in good health. Here is an overview of some of the most popular types of coral in the hobby, along with their degree of difficulty and lighting needs:

LPS (Large Polyp Stony) Corals: LPS corals are some of the most popular types of coral in the hobby. They have large fleshy polyps and a hard skeleton. Some popular LPS corals include Acan, Hammer, Torch, and Bubble coral. These corals are generally easy to care for and can thrive in a variety of lighting conditions. They do well under moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow.

SPS (Small Polyp Stony) Corals: SPS corals are known for their small polyps and delicate, intricate structures. They require more specialized care and are generally considered more challenging to keep than LPS corals. Some popular SPS corals include Acropora, Montipora, and Stylophora. SPS corals require high lighting levels and strong water flow to thrive.

Soft Corals: Soft corals are generally easy to care for and have a variety of shapes and colors. They do not have a hard skeleton and are often referred to as "softies." Some popular soft corals include Mushroom, Leather, and Xenia coral. Soft corals do well under moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow.

Zoanthids: Zoanthids are another popular type of coral in the hobby. They have a wide range of colors and patterns and are often referred to as "zoas." They are generally easy to care for and can thrive in a variety of lighting conditions. Zoanthids do well under moderate to high lighting and moderate water flow.

In addition to lighting, it is important to consider other factors when purchasing and caring for live coral, such as water quality, temperature, and flow. Be sure to research the specific needs of the corals you are interested in and consult with a knowledgeable source if you have any questions or concerns.
